Dear Coaches and Parents,
Did you know that in 2010-11 nearly one-third of NHL players had college hockey backgrounds, making college hockey a bigger source of NHL talent than all of Europe? Additionally, the average NHL career lasts less than five years, and regardless of how good a player is, he should anticipate retirement at some point. A college education gives players a leg up when it comes to the next step in life.
So why does this matter to the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League? Because we here at College Hockey, Inc. want to help your players know more about the benefits of playing college hockey! College Hockey, Inc. is the information and education arm of NCAA Division I men’s ice hockey and our message touches on the success of college players to illustrate that college hockey is a proven path to the NHL.
College Hockey, Inc. is a non-profit entity funded by USA Hockey, and is not an agency, recruiting, or advisor service. Instead, we focus on informing prospective student athletes and their families on the NCAA hockey path including recruiting, eligibility, scholarship opportunities, etc. Our representatives spend a large amount of time traveling North America making presentations to groups of players and families about the educational benefits associated with Division I hockey, as well as the on ice development and NHL opportunities that arise from playing college hockey.
For example, College Hockey, Inc. convened a Reebok Collegiate Hockey Summit where Mike Santorelli, a rising star with the Florida Panthers, had this to say: “The atmosphere in college hockey is amazing. It makes you want to thrive as a hockey player. You’re out there in front of the student section and the energy they have carries over on to the ice.”
College Hockey, Inc. is less than two years old but we have already reached thousands of elite young players in settings similar to this one. Whether addressing individual teams or large groups, our message is the same – the college hockey experience is the best in the world, thanks to an elite on-ice product, outstanding educational opportunities and the unique campus environment.
Finally, the college experience – from playing in front of the student sections Santorelli mentioned to the experience of living on their own – helps prepare players for their next steps in hockey and in life. “Our mission is to provide players and their families with the information they need to make smart decisions as they pursue their hockey and educational goals,” said Paul Kelly, Executive Director of College Hockey, Inc. “There are fantastic opportunities at the 59 schools that offer Division I hockey, and we encourage players to pursue them.”
Thanks to our outstanding relationship with your commissioner, Larry Johnson, we have been given the opportunity in the past to make large presentations during our showcase weekends. We also welcome the opportunity to meet with teams individually if that what works best. We can be reached at the phone number below. You may also want to share our new website, www.collegehockeyinc.com , which is a great resource for players and their parents who may have questions about Division I college hockey, as well as a real-time college scoreboard, and numerous interviews with college hockey alumni who now play in the NHL.
We are fortunate to have made this connection, and I encourage you to participate in these opportunities to give your child or players the best opportunities to make the next level.
