The T1EHL and San Jose Jr. Sharks are proud to announce four 2005 born players selected in the inaugural WHL U.S. Draft.

The WHL hosted their very first U.S. only draft. This draft was started to aid in the risk that WHL teams have when drafting U.S. born players. Each team in the draft held two picks for a total of 44 selections. WHL teams can draft players from the Western United States and Minnesota.

Shaun Rios was the first Jr. Shark player to go, getting drafted #2 overall by the Tri-City Americans. The Americans are one of five teams located in the U.S. that compete in the WHL.

Philippe Blais-Savoie was the second name called from the Jr. Sharks at No. 7 by the Vancouver Giants. Current San Jose Shark Evander Kane laced up the skates for the Giants from 2006-2009.

Briggs Orr was selected by the Calgary Hitmen at number 34. Current San Jose Shark Martin Jones played for the Hitmen from 2006-2010.

Our last selection of the draft was Ben Picard at number 43, joining teammate Shaun Rios, selected by the Tri-City Americans. Notable alumni include Carey Price, Montreal, and Brandon Carlo, Boston Bruins.

T1EHL is proud of all of its players who continue to advance in the ranks of hockey. Where do you go from here? Everywhere.
