The NCAA’s Division I Council approved rule changes in the spring that significantly alter the recruiting timeline for Division 1 men’s hockey prospects. By doing this, the NCAA hopes to slow down and improve the recruiting experience.
As most players are currently in their off-season and recruiting is well underway, it’s important to remember these changes that were effective May 1. The biggest changes include:
-Not allowing recruiting conversations (initiated by either side) prior to Jan. 1 of a prospect’s sophomore year (grade 10).
-Making Aug. 1 prior to the prospect’s junior (grade 11) year as the first date when NCAA coaches can make a verbal offer.
